Toronto has been named as one of the most liveable cities in the world.

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s annual Global Liveability Report has been released, ranking global cities on the concept of “liveability.” According to the report, this means it assesses which locations around the world provide the best and worst living conditions.

To accomplish this, The Economist ranks cities based on 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across five broad categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

These categories, and their weighting in the overall ranking rating between 1-100, is as follows:

  • Stability (weighted at 25% of total)
  • Healthcare (weighted at 20% of total)
  • Culture & Environment (weighted at 25% of total)
  • Education (weighted at 10% of total)
  • Infrastructure (weighted at 20% of total)

Toronto came in one spot behind Vancouver, in seventh place. Calgary ranked as the top Canadian city on the list, placing fourth. Which is actually a 3 spot drop for TO, which was ranked 4th most liveable city in the world in the same report last year.

However, similar to last year’s top 10 most liveable cities, an astounding 70% are located in either Australia or Canada.

So if you’re calling Toronto, Vancouver, or Calgary home, you can easily say you’re living in one of the best cities in the world, once again.

10 most livable cities in the world 2018

  1. Vienna, Austria
  2. Melbourne, Australia
  3. Osaka, Japan
  4. Calgary, Canada
  5. Sydney, Australia
  6. Vancouver, Canada
  7. Toronto, Canada
  8. Tokyo, Japan
  9. Copenhagen, Denmark
  10. Adelaide, Australia
