The Best Small Towns to Check Out in Western Canada

Whether you are considering relocating or you are simply looking for the next perfect getaway outside of the city you’ll always call home, having your finger on the pulse of the best small towns is always wise. Sometimes, things need to be a little slower for a couple of days. If you don’t feel the need to slow down, remember that when there’s a small town, there’s often some great nature nearby. That little fact might be what makes you want to visit.
Just think about it, there’s a reason people started settling down in these towns all those years ago. So even if it isn’t nature (it probably is) there’s bound to be something amazing for you to see even if it’s just for a weekend trip.
Golden, BC
Some of us have a hard time choosing anything in our daily lives so picking where to vacation probably isn’t any different. If you are looking to see a national park but are having a hard time narrowing it down, with Golden you don’t have to choose. After all, the place is surrounded by six different national parks.
If you can, spend a few weeks (or make a few trips) and you’ll be able to see each park from Jasper, Glacier, Yoho, Banff and more. All you need to know is that if you want to see as much of the Rockies as you can, you’ll be in the perfect place with no need to worry as you’ll be able to sort out the rest of the details once you’ve arrived in Golden.
Churchill, MB
If anyone is ever given the chance, do make sure to see the Northern Lights. It’s absolutely like nothing you’ve seen before and nothing you’ll see after. Given you are even the slightest bit interested in seeing the lights, why not do it in the polar bear capital of the world? Don’t be frightened by that name, Churchill is only called that because of how amazing it is for seeing wildlife.
Speaking of once in a lifetime sightings, many also travel to Churchill for the chance to see a beluga whale in person. Unlike others mentioned here, Churchill might take a little more planning given it’s somewhere you can’t drive to. Typically, a train is how you’ll get there which is really just one more memory you’ll make during your trip.
Banff, AB
There’s simply no way anyone would mention the best small Canadian towns and not include Banff. It’s really as simple as that. It’s exactly where many will picture as smalltown Canada. If you aren’t familiar with its beauty, seeing a few pictures online will have you next looking at Banff Homes for Sale within minutes. On top of its looks, where it’s located is to die for.
To put it in a sentence, Banff is home to Canada’s first national park and there’s not a better place to have chosen as the first. No matter how much you love to spend time outside, Banff is going to be the perfect place to do it. You might love canoeing, you might love hiking or bird watching, no matter what it is, you’ll be hard pressed to find another place better to do it.
